Taarana’s Annual Sports Day Full of Cheer

Taarana’s annual sports day, which was held last Saturday, 8 April 2017 at Sekolah Kebangsaan Kelana Jaya 1 in Petaling Jaya, saw over 30 students participate in activities ranging from the kangaroo gym ball and ring toss to the scooter board and baton game.

At the start of the day, the children formed groups depending on their team colours – red, blue, yellow and green before going on to the first activity of the day, the march pass and singing of the national anthem. Students competed in six games and there was even one for the parents too!

Students, volunteers, teachers, parents and guests then joined in on an energetic aerobic session before the games began. Volunteers for this year’s sports day were from the Malaysian Cricket Association.

The day ended with medal presentations by QI Group Directors, Mr. Krishna Kumar and Ms. Pushpam Appalanaidu as well as senior Quest International University Perak (QIUP) management representatives, Mr. Nicholas Goh and Mr. Magandran Rajadurai.

Vijayaratnam Foundation Chairperson, Datin Sri Umayal Eswaran presented the prizes to the winning team, the Blue Team, and also to the winning team in the parents’ challenge.  Datin Sri Umayal, in her closing speech, thanked the teachers for their compassion and dedication to the children as well as the parents for their trust and confidence in the school as well as in the teachers who care for their children.

“It was a great event. The happiness in the children’s faces were simply a joy to everyone watching,” said Ms. Jayamalar Samuel, Head of the Vijayaratnam Foundation.

The sports day is part of the many activities Taarana organises to fulfil their mission in preparing children with special needs and integrating them into mainstream society. The main objectives of this event are to encourage the children to become independent learners, helping them build their self-confidence through positive sporting experiences and to prepare them to be able to participate in fun, competitive and recreational activities outside the usual school environment.
