Taarana School Hosts Ms. Tan Cheng Yi for a Session on Understanding and Managing Behaviors
Petaling Jaya – 11 October 2025 Taarana hosted a vital talk for its teachers and parents titled Understanding and Managing Behaviors: Bridging the Gap Between Home & School, led by chartered Educational Psychologist Ms. Tan Cheng Yi. Drawing on over 25 years of experience, Ms. Tan emphasized the critical concept that every behavior a child displays is a form of communication, urging attendees to look beyond the surface action, which she likened to only seeing “the tip of the iceberg”.

Ms. Tan further stressed the “importance of structure and consistency in managing behaviors,” and provided practical implementation examples. She noted that these strategies include “structuring tasks, using timetables, setting up routines, providing clear communication, and incorporating sensory tools for regulation, such as swings and trampolines.
The session’s high point was the interactive group activity, which strategically divided participants into mixed groups of parents and teachers to tackle real-world case studies. This format provided a unique and valuable opportunity for both educators and caregivers to step into each other’s shoes, allowing teachers to gain crucial insights into behaviours and management strategies from the parents’ perspective, and vice versa.
This collaborative discussion ensured a deeper, mutual understanding of a child’s challenges across different environments. Ultimately, the session’s main aim was successfully driven home: to emphasize the paramount importance of collaboration between parents and teachers, ensuring the overall well-being and developmental success of the child.
