The special needs children of Taarana School, their parents and teachers had a fun filled day at the very first Taarana Family Day on 26 November 2016. The Taarana Family Day was held during the Social Skills Month from 1 November to 2 December 2016 where the children participated in various interactive activities to learn vocational, communication, living and social skills, that they then demonstrated to their parents during the Family Day.

The Taarana Family Day had various workstations themed according to relevant special needs educational subjects, such as and Arts and Crafts booth, a Sensory Booth, a Cooking Booth and a Pre-Vocational Booth, where the children, accompanied by their parents, progressed from one station to another to try out the interesting activities.

At the Arts and Crafts booth, Taarana School children and their parents had the opportunity to create pieces of art and make small handicrafts. The little master chefs also showed off their culinary skills making pizzas, with various toppings and sauces at the Cooking Booth. There was also a gardening booth, where the children and their parents demonstrated their talents arranging a small flowerpot and later placing it in the Taarana nursery. They also had a great time playing with sand in a sensory stimulating activity.

Undoubtedly, the highlight of the Taarana Family Day was Santa Claus making a grand entrance and handing out Christmas presents to the children as well as to the wonderful teachers. The Taarana Family Day was organised with the hope of bringing the special needs families together and strengthen communication and the bond between teachers and parents, which will create an environment that will benefit the children.
