In a landmark move toward sustainability, Pusat Pendidikan Khas Sinaran@Taarana recently hosted its first-ever World Environmental Education Day, bridging the gap between environmental awareness and meaningful action. By championing environmental education, Taarana aims to equip students with a practical roadmap for responsible interaction with our planet. This event marks a significant milestone as the school embarks on a “zero-waste journey” on a scale that has never been undertaken before.

The event was honoured by the presence of Encik Nazri, Assistant Officer of the Education Program for Pendidikan Integrasi Khas (PPKI) at the Petaling Utama District Education Office (PPD). Expressing his support for the initiative, he shared:

“Program ini memberi impak yang mendalam. Ia bukan sekadar teori, malah satu kemahiran hidup yang boleh diamalkan setiap hari. Melalui aktiviti seperti menanam pokok, mengumpul bahan kitar semula, dan menjaga kebersihan persekitaran, kita mampu menerapkan nilai murni dalam diri mereka.”

A highlight of the day was the official launch of The Magic of Recycling, a book authored by Taarana’s own teacher, Joanne Matilda. This publication serves as a cornerstone of the school’s green efforts and is specially designed to instil environmental awareness among special education students.

Ms. Shreevidya Anandan, Deputy Head of RYTHM Foundation, emphasized the book’s importance, noting its role in making complex environmental concepts accessible to all learners.

The celebration was further enriched by the participation of the NGO Generasi Peduli Sampah. Volunteers provided students with hands-on experience, teaching the core 3Rs: Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. This interactive session allowed students to engage directly with waste management practices, transforming theoretical knowledge into a fun and meaningful experience.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all our esteemed guests, the Petaling Utama district schools, and our NGO partners for joining us in this celebration. This is just the beginning of Taarana’s commitment to a cleaner, greener world.
