Taarana’s Sensory Day Sparks Joy Through Mud Play

Taarana Sensory day
24/07/2026

PETALING JAYA, 24–25 July 2026— Taarana recently hosted its anticipated two-day Sensory Day celebration, filling the centre with laughter, dirty water, and hands-on mud play. Designed to support child development through sensory integration activities, the two-day event offered students an unforgettable journey of exploration, teamwork, and tactile learning.

Day 1 was tailored for our Early Intervention Programme (EIP) students, while Day 2 challenged older students from the Transition and Pre-Vocational programmes with advanced obstacle courses.

Day 1: Water Exploration & Interactive Learning for Early Intervention Students

The celebration kicked off with a blended sensory exposure with vital skill development in a joyful, jungle-themed environment.

  • Jungle Trail & Animal Feeding: They navigated a jungle-themed walking course where they learned about wildlife, they learned to identify the animal and feeding cartoon animals their corresponding diets.
  • Fine Motor & Visual Aiming: Children used water spray guns to knock down target bottles, a fun exercise designed to build finger strength and improve hand-eye coordination.
  • Water Play & Swimming: The highlight of the day was an open water-play session where children swam, splashed, and connected with their friends in a safe aquatic setting.

Day 2: Mud-Making, Jungle Adventures & Pirate Missions

On Day 2, students from the Transition and Pre-Vocational programmes took center stage for a thrilling sensory adventure that tested their balance, spatial awareness, and problem-solving skills.

The morning began with students creating their own mud from scratch before embarking on an exciting “Jungle in the Dark” quest.

The Blindfolded Pirate Challenge

The highlight of the day 2 was a pirate-themed sensory obstacle course. Working in pairs or guided by teachers, relied entirely on verbal directions on them to navigate the course and discover a hidden treasure map:

  • Tactile Exploration: Students walked bare foot across varied textured pathways to stimulate foot nerve endings.
  • Vestibular Balance: Crossing a “river bridge” balance beam challenged students’ core stability and spatial orientation.

After discovering the treasure, the fun shifted into high gear. Students lay on scooter boards and zipped across the designated “mud” track, ending their run by safely crashing into yoga blocks and giant bowling pins in a live human-bowling game.

The event concluded with an energetic water gun battle involving both students and teachers, leaving everyone soaked, and happy.
