PETALING JAYA, 28 August 2026 – Taarana was filled with vibrant colour, pride, and patriotism as students gathered for the annual Merdeka Celebration. National Day offers a meaningful opportunity for the children to learn about Malaysia’s historic independence from British colonial rule.

A Sea of Colours: Jalur Gemilang Theme

This year’s theme drew inspiration directly from the Jalur Gemilang the Malaysian flag. Every programme showcased one of the iconic national colours:

Yellow (Early Intervention Programme – EIP): Representing loyalty and warmth.
Blue (Early Transition Programme – ETP): Symbolising unity and harmony.
Red (Transition Programme): Expressing courage.
White (Pre-Vocational Programme): Signifying purity and foundation.

Seeing teachers and students dressed in these distinct shades created a visual reminder of strength in diversity.

Engaging Activities: Songs, Traditional Games, and Local Foods

The event blended sensory learning with cultural appreciation through hands-on activities tailored for every student:

1. Patriotic Parades & Music

Students marched proudly while waving flags and singing beloved national songs, filling the halls with high energy.

2. Hands-on Local Food Making

Food brings people together, and our students experienced the joy of culinary heritage by preparing iconic Malaysian dishes:

Savoury popiah
Sweet, traditional glutinous rice balls
Golden, fragrant thosai

The children were introduced to traditional Malaysian pastimes, encouraging gross motor skills and social turn-taking:

Lompat Tali Rubber Band: Jumping over woven rubber band ropes.
Tikam Game: A classic lucky-draw game where children picked a number to win small prizes and toys.
