Taarana Kids Walk for Independence Day
Kuala Lumpur, 26 August 2011 – The children of Taarana marched proudly in a “Merdeka Walk” in conjuction with Malaysia’s 54th Merdeka Day, which celebrates the independence of the Federation of Malaya from British colonial rule in 1957, celebrated on August 31 each year.
The walk was organised to give these children with special needs a better understanding of the concept of merdeka, literally meaning “freedom”. A deeper appreciation will help to nurture in them a love for their country at a young age.
Although they may be too young to fully grasp the depth of the subject, their enthusiasm was great and infectious. Their faces beamed as they proudly walked together and waved the Malaysian flag, also known as Jalur Gemilang or “stripes of glory”.
Dedicated to the development of these special children, Taarana and Vijayaratnam Foundation (VF) hope to involve them in many such celebrations in the future.
