PETALING JAYA, March 31, 2026 —Taarana celebrated World Down Syndrome Day with a mission to tackle social isolation. Embracing this year’s global theme, “Together Against Loneliness,” students transformed into superheroes, symbolizing the power of unity and community.

The event opened with a friendship bracelet activity designed to reinforce this year’s theme. Students personalized their bracelets with decorative charms and the initials of their friends, emphasizing the importance of individual friendships in the fight against social isolation.

The highlight of the day was the Superhero Fashion Show, where students took to the runway in their favorite heroic costume. From the capes of Batman and the webs of Spider-Man to the iconic overalls of the Super Mario Bros, the stage was a blaze of color and courage. Many also sported mismatched socks, a global symbol of World Down Syndrome Day that celebrates the beauty of our differences. This parade of heroes was designed to empower children by showing that they each have unique strengths.

The excitement continued with a high-energy “Find the Missing Socks” activity, where students divided into groups, followed specific clues to locate hidden socks scattered throughout the area. Through teamwork and persistence, they successfully recovered every sock and paired them correctly, transforming a simple search into a meaningful lesson in collaboration.

The day concluded with a lively game of “Pass the Socks.” As the music stopped, the student holding the sock drew a card from inside and performed the action described. This engaging activity was designed to enhance social interaction, sharpen instruction-following skills, and boost children’s confidence.

The celebration served as a meaningful reminder that having an extra chromosome is always a reason to celebrate the love and unique perspectives these heroes bring to our community.
