Taarana’s First Ever Sports Day
On the 31st March 2012, Taarana held its first Sports Day at the Pure Life Society Field at 6th mile, Puchong, Kuala Lumpur. This was truly a benchmark for Taarana. It took dedication, commitment and hard work from the children, teachers and staff to make this day possible. The event was also a success because we received full support from all parents.
36 of our children participated in the sports events which started at 9 a.m. and went on till 12 p.m. The months of practice with teachers paid off as our children successfully competed and participated in the events of the day. It was a good opportunity for the children to shine in areas other than academics.
The children participated in various fun activities during those three hours. These included the spoon race, the ‘icccceyyy mystery bucket’, bowling, the happy face race, the partner race and the ‘Michael Jackson’ race.
These events incorporated certain therapeutic values and input for the benefit of the children, and trained them on eye-hand coordination, sensory, balance, motor skills, turn taking, social skills and more.
What the children took home with them was the attitude that everyone is a winner. In line with this, they were all given medals for their participation and effort.
We even engaged the parents with a special gorilla walk race and tug of war activity. Even our guests were encouraged to participate in the lively and famous Poco Poco dance of Indonesia.
Guests who graced the event included our beloved Dato’ Vijay Eswaran and Datin Umayal Eswaran, our Directors such as Mr. Kuna Senathirajah, Mr. Pathman Senathirajah and Mr. Krishna Kumar as well as Mr. Nicholas Goh, Trustee of the Vijayaratnam Foundation and V Partner, Mr. Sathiaseelan Senathirajah. Mr. Stevenson Charles, Vice Chairman of Vijayaratnam Foundation was also present.
The children went home with goodie bags and snacks, while each parent left with a special gift. All in all, everyone went home with a full heart, having enjoyed the events of the day.
We hope that through more efforts such as this, our children will be truly empowered and transformed.
