26 April 2025, PETALING JAYA – More than just a walk, it was a vibrant declaration of awareness, acceptance, and empowerment as a dedicated community gathered on early Saturday morning. Taarana’s annual “Walk for Autism 2025,” a powerful event held in conjunction with World Autism Month, shone a crucial spotlight on autism awareness, celebrated the richness of neurodiversity, and reaffirmed a collective commitment to building a truly inclusive society where individuals on the autism spectrum are not only welcomed but empowered to thrive.

“Now in its second year, Walk for Autism 2025 is our invitation to the community to walk beside us,” said Dr. Sunitha Sivakumaran, Principal of Taarana School. “Walk, in a sense of not just physically, but also in spirit and intention. We want people to truly be aware and understand who our children are and what they need.”

As the event’s anchor partner, QI Group played a pivotal role in amplifying the message of inclusion and empowerment through their social impact arm, the RYTHM Foundation. The Group Managing Director, Mr. Kuna Senathirajah emphasized, “this support reflects the group’s core values and recognition of the often-unseen challenges faced by families of children with special needs. Many of our staff are participating in this walk, exemplifying need to turn purpose into action, reinforcing its belief that sustainable progress must be community-led, culturally respectful, and rooted in dignity for all.”

The morning began with energizing warm-ups before participants of all ages embarked on a meaningful 45-minute walk. Families, educators, advocates, and members of the public walked side-by-side, their presence a powerful visual statement for autism inclusion.

The event continued with engaging activities, including inclusive games, educational booths, therapy resource stations, and vocational training information, all designed to cultivate a more informed and supportive environment. Participants were recognized for their efforts, but the true reward was the collective stride towards a more inclusive future.
