Taarana Welcomes Football Superstar Kompany

On 7 June, 2012, our students at Taarana were given an extra special treat when Manchester City football team captain, Vincent Kompany, included Taarana in his personal tour of Malaysia.

His visit to Taarana was supported by QNET – the direct-selling subsidiary of the QI Group, whose Malaysian CSR arm VIjayaratnam Foundation established the school.

During the visit, Kompany, the 26-year-old captain spent some quality time with the children and held a ‘football clinic’ where they played football together in a nearby field.

The talented young player who has a two-year-old daughter of his own was more than happy to be spending time with our children and teaching them his world-class football skills.

He also expressed how he was amazed at the dedication of our teachers at Taarana and congratulated Vijayaratnam Foundation for having opened the school, which was created to provide a better future for the children.

Dato’ Vijay Eswaran, the Executive Chairman of the QI Group, was also present and extended his gratitude to the Manchester City Captain, explaining more on how QNET had always been involved in sports and recognises the beneficial effect it can have on worthy causes.

“Sport is the most liberating of all endeavours. It allows one to rise to one’s greatest heights. Through sport, we celebrate both the championship of success that QNET stands for and the victory of the human spirit over its trials and tribulations, which Taarana stands for.

“Naturally we are grateful to Kompany for being here today, but more so because he epitomises championship. We are happy that he lends his luster of championship to QNET and his passion and spirit to the children of Taarana,”said Dato’ Vijay.

Kompany also posed alongside fans and the Marussia F1 Team show car, which raced in the 2010 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. QNET, which is a Marussia F1 Team sponsor, displayed the car at Taraana to spark the children’s interest in F1.

I wish to know more about this foundation and what programs there are for a 7 year old boy currently studying in a Chinese school. He is diagnosed with ADHD. He cannot concentrated in the classroom.
