Taarana Celebrates 55th Merdeka Day

On 30 August, 2012 Taarana jointly celebrated Hari Raya and Malaysia’s 55th Merdeka Day with much joy. Our students, parents and teachers were encouraged to dress in their traditional costumes. The event started off with the singing of the national anthem after which our students made visits from class to class greeting ‘Selamat Hari Raya’ and ‘Happy Merdeka’ to their fellow classmates and teachers.

All dressed up for Merdeka Raya

Throughout the entire Merdeka week, our students had colouring, story-telling, picture and pantomime sessions, all relating to Merdeka Day. Our morning session students began their programme at 10.30 a.m. on that day while the afternoon session began at 2.30 p.m. Our dedicated teachers organised fun and educational activities for them to enjoy and learn the meaning of Merdeka Day.

We also had potluck for our students with a variety of mouth-watering Malaysian finger food. It was very special to see everyone getting together and working hard to make this event a success. At the end of the day, our students left the school with a Malaysian flag in their hands proudly waving ‘MERDEKA’.
